Hello again,
A Vårdcentral, where the specialist is an Allmänläkare, i.e. have completed an ST-tjänst of a minimum of 5 years within the speciality field Allmänmmedicin, handles most of your everyday problems and follow ups after the patient has been at the hospital.
As an example you can expect to meet patients of all ages with musculosceletal pain, skin problems, various types of infection, high blood pressure that needs managing, head aches, vertigo, and so on. Your job is to, if possible, identify the cause of the patients complaints and either treat it (if possible) or refer the patient to someone who can. At times you may also have to refer them to a specialist for further investigation and tests.
In the publication in the link below you will find a report from a Vårdcentral, regarding what problems, diagnosis and prescription which were the most common at their drop-in clinic (in Swedish).
http://www.lul.se/Global/Extran%C3%A4t/ ... s%20vc.pdf
In summary, during the 9 weeks that the study was performed at total of 727 visits occured, with 662 unique patients. Just above 500 of the 727 visits saw a doctor, the rest were handled by a nurse.
The ten most common reasons for visitin to the Drop-in clinic stood for a little above 80% of the visits. The top reasons for seeing the doctor (
see page 18) was ear problems, urinary tract problems and the need for some sort of certificate/sick note.
My suggestion is that you ask you future employer of a list of the ten most common diagnoses at their facility. They should not have a problem retrieving that information from the computer.
Best of luck on you new job!
