I can tell you a bit about the UK procedure.
1) You apply through UCAS (sorta like antagning.se). Link:
https://www.ucas.com/
2) Medicine is highly competitive so you have an earlier deadline (compared to other courses). For 2016 entry the deadline is 15th of Oct 2015.
https://www.ucas.com/ucas/undergraduate ... dates/2016
3) You can only choose 4 medical universities (in other courses you can choose up to 5 unis). You can't choose both Oxford and Cambridge.
4) Most universities use admission tests; either UCKAT and BMAT. Oxford/Cambridge, Imperial, UCL uses BMAT. The rest uses UCKAT. You can check out the details on their respective websites:
http://www.admissionstestingservice.org ... bout-bmat/
http://www.ukcat.ac.uk/
UKCAT is done on the computer and you get your results directly. You can "choose" the day you wish to do UKCAT. BMAT is conducted only once and you get the result in a month.
5) If the unis like your grades + personal statement + test results they will invite you for an interview. The only university (that I know of) that doesn't interview is Edinburgh. They judge you by pure grades + UKCAT + personal statement.
6) After the interview you wait for the answer.
Make sure you go to the website of the uni you are interested in and check out the requirements etc... Also you can read how much weight they put on personal statement/tests/grades or even how much weight they put on the different parts of the test. Ex. Oxford doesn't really care a lot about the essay part of the BMAT (at least the last time I checked).
This was a really quick overview, but I hope it was helpful. If you have any questions ask and I'll try to answer. If you are interested I have UKCAT + BMAT + Interview books that I'm willing to sell. I live in Stockholm.
