Romania - specialist medical training in Sweden

Inlägg av georgesR1992 »

@aliahmed thank you for your reply.
Basically I have a schengen visa too and I will start the Swedish lessons here in Cyprus next month. I have like 15 months before I graduate so hopefully I will have a good level by then. But still I have a lot of concerns about getting the right to stay in Sweden later on. I will have to apply for the AT internship since my UK degree is not fully licensed. So after getting my degree approved and recognized by the "socialstyrelsen", I am aware that going through a 6 month practice "praktik" will give me better chances of getting accepted in the program. Do you have any idea about the process and if it possible to do that with a schengen visa or you need a work permit for that?
I know that it's a complicated case but hopefully there will be a way.
Thank you

As far as i know you need work permit even for AT but it will be comparatively easier for u ,,since u can come to Sweden and get that contract letter( AT offer letter from hospital) which will enable u to apply for work permit.
My case is bit different bcoz my Romanian degree is fully licensed (which i think so, bcoz i am not 100% sure about it either) so i am not eligible for AT.
Personally i want to get some expereince either through AT or underlakare before applying for ST but i dont know whether is it possible or no,,hopefully i will get the license after few weeks and after that will try my best to find any kind of intership.

Hej!

What do you know about taking a PhD in Sweden? Is it possible to do only this, without applying for ST? I'm asking because I'm really interested in research (mainly in Psychiatry) and it would not bother me to work solely as a researcher.

Tack!

Romania to medical residency in Sweden

Inlägg av Nils »

PhD and residency are separate processes. In fact, a PhD is often recommended as a merit for getting into a residency at a university hospital. It should be quite possible to pursue a PhD.

I realise they are separate processes. I just thought that I would rather pursue a PhD first, and then see about ST. Yet, I don't really know how hard it is to get in an University Hospital.

Hej :glad:

I don't know if something changed since I last looked (Sep 2015), but I verified now the requirements of Socialstyrelsen for applying for a licence and it says "Swedish C1". I've learned Swedish for a year now, but I can't say I'm somewhere near C1. Moreover, I don't really think I'll get to it without moving to Sweden and talking with natives on a daily basis.

I am asking because when I contacted a gentleman from Dalarna last year, he said I would need B2; and if needed, they would help me further with language classes. I'm kind of baffled now :velig:

Hej Dennis and congratulations on your progress so far! :tummarupp:

It sounds odd indeed that Dalarna (and other counties in Sweden that I've seen adds from) can ask for a level of Swedish that is lower than what is required from Socialstyrelsen. I've read the the web page from Socialstyrelsen and indeed you are correct in that they require level C1.

I would recommend you to call Socialstyrelsen and ask if it is possible for you to apply anyway, since the employer you've been in contact with (the County of Dalarna) only requires level B2 and also said they are willing to arrange language classes for you.

Please let us know how it goes, since you are surely not alone in this predicament!

Best of luck :tur:

Tack för ditt svar!

I will contact Socialstyrelsen and see if it's possible to apply in this case. If not, I will try a different strategy. I understand it's possible to work as underläkare being a EU-licensed (but not Sweden-licensed) MD; that would still be medical training (non-ST though) while learning Swedish.

I'll keep you posted!
