Thanks you very much for the response.
Regarding experience i want to ask you that can it be achieved while doing unpaid internship before applying for ST position?
i mean to say that first of all i will learn language and lets say after 6 months(obviously my language skills will not be upto required level C 1) then is their any such possibility that some hospitals can hire me for unpaid internship because as far as i know i am not allowed to apply for AT position as i have EU medical diploma, right now i donot have clinical experience OR any relevant work to show.
Secondly do you have any information that some hospitals/recruitment agencies can arrange language course for upcoming doctors..
Which peripheral cities of Sweden should i try,NILS already told me few of them.
Thanks

This is definitely looked upon as experience, both clinically and logistically, as you will learn the local routines, computer system and so on.
Whether or not you will be able to deduct your time spent with un-paid shadowing from your ST, I do not know. This will have to be discussed with the separate clinics individually. But don't focus on that, since your time spent with shadowing should be considered more of an opportunity to gain relevant experience in terms of language, culture, computer system, local routines and so on.

You are correct in that you are not eligible for the AT-tjänstgöring. With your converted EU diploma, your license will be considered as a Swedish one. Thus, once you manage to land a job - probably once you have enough language skills and some clinical experience from your un-paid shadowing - you will get paid. As a doctor holding a Swedish medical license you should NEVER accept a salary under 35000 SEK/month, experience or not, especially not in any rural area.

Regarding arranging shadowing, I recommend you to contact Arbetsförmedlingen, who sometimes can help you with this.

And finally, regarding what counties might offer you language courses, you should look at this web page from Dalarna, where they have experience with hiring EU-doctors.
http://www.ltdalarna.se/en/Start/Career ... our-offer/
Under Vacancies you can fill out a form with your details, and they'll be in touch.

If you decide to do all this trough a recruiting agency, you should not have to pay large sums of money or part of your future salary for there services. They get plenty of money from the counties/hospitals for there services. And it's cheaper to find a county/hospital willing to help you with it, for practically no money at all. Just my opinion.

Hej :glad:

My name is Denis, I am an EU citizen currently studying Medicine in Romania. I will obtain my medical license in September 2016 and I plan to practice Medicine in Sweden. Therefore, I already started learning Swedish and I plan to get to a decent language level until next year.

I read a great amount of information on different forums and I am a little bit confused. I would greatly appreciate is someone could provide me some extra-info.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I understood that the first step is to obtain a Swedish medical license (being an EU citizen with a medical license provided by an EU country should not render this process extremely difficult). After obtaining the Swedish medical license, with a B2 Swedish level, can I directly apply for a postgraduate/residency training?

In Romania, I worked in research, I have some experience abroad as an Erasmus student in Italy, I have a good English level. I would like to start in a little town in Sweden and work my way up, I am not seeking directly for large towns.

Tack! :flinar:

Hello Denis, and welcome to this forum!

Now to your questions.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I understood that the first step is to obtain a Swedish medical license (being an EU citizen with a medical license provided by an EU country should not render this process extremely difficult).
This is correct. The validation process at Socialstyrelsen currently takes up to three months, from the date that your application is complete. For more information on the process and the documents needed, visit https://www.socialstyrelsen.se/applicat ... ofmedicine
After obtaining the Swedish medical license, with a B2 Swedish level, can I directly apply for a postgraduate/residency training?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Formally yes, but it is currently pretty much standard procedure that you need some work experience, even at smaller hospitals. This is due to (a) competition, as it might be more than one applicant for the position, and/or (b) the hospital/department want to get to know you (and see how you work with the rest of the staff) and thus you work 6-12 months at the hospital/department you want to do ST at, before you get in to the ST-program. Your time spent working before ST can usually be deducted from your 5-year residency (ST-tjänst).
I would like to start in a little town in Sweden and work my way up, I am not seeking directly for large towns.
I recommend you to check out the link posted above, about Landstinget Dalarna. Their hospitals are in "little towns", and the county offers Swedish language courses.

If you want to find other opportunities to better your Swedish by taking formal courses, you can see different options in the link below
https://studyinsweden.se/study-informat ... n-swedish/

Please keep us posted on your progress and what answers you get from Dalarna, as your answers will benefit others interested in doing the same journey, as well as letting us who tries to help you to improve our answers.

Lycka till! :tur:

Hello,
i have one confusion.. In the application form for Swedish medical license on the basis of training in an EU country it is mentioned that i should write whether i have medical license/full authorization to work as a doctor in the country of education.
My education took place in Romania, although my diploma is valid there but i am not able to work OR not eligible to apply for Romanian medical license because neither i am Romanian nor EU citizen.
So what do you think that socialstyrelson can deny me Swedish license on the basis that i donot have license/full authorization in Romania despite of the fact that i studied in an EU country.
Thanks a lot

It is possible - this is actually the first time I hear about a situation like that. You should send an e-mail to Socialstyrelsen and ask them (and please share their answer here).

If you are not eligible for the Swedish medical license, you would however be eligible to apply for the AT internship. This could actually be a good thing, since the AT internship is a solid introduction to how the physician's job works in Sweden (routines, laws, computer systems et cetera).

Your medical degree should also be recognised as a EU medical degree, meaning that you should have a much easier and quicker time getting past that part of the process, compared to the situation for non-EU/EEA medical degrees.

When i contacted socialstyrelsen they said that we cannot take any preliminary decision but you can send us the documents and we will assess yoour application, which i have done already and they will take maximum 3 months to give response.
But i was planning to go to Sweden next week and start learning language there but now i am bit confused that if they deny me the license then time and money spent on learning language willl be wasted..
But as you mentioned that even if they dont give me license then i will be eligible for AT training atleast which is also good.
Dont worry when i get any response from them i will post it here.
Thanks a lot.

Hej, sorry for the absence.

I got an answer from a nice gentleman in Dalarna.

Regarding the language level, he said I would need a B2 level, but if my Swedish is not good enough, they have a language school who can help students from abroad.

Regarding the application, he said that I will be able to apply for a job as soon as I will have a Swedish licence to practice medicine. However, until that formality is over, we can do an interview.

I hope to hear from you again, I will continue my Swedish language studies (a really difficult language :pinsamt: ) and hope for the best!
