Svenska Dagbladet skrev:The first assessment from Socialstyrelsen (the National Board of Health and Welfare), on whether a foreign healthcare education meets Swedish standards, is supposed to take two months. Right now, it takes eight months. Those who need to complement their application, amounting to about half of the applicants, have to wait another eight months before the validation process can even begin.
Svenska Dagbladet skrev:For a physician with specialist training, it took 4 years on average when Riksrevisionen (the Swedish National Audit Office) examined the waiting times in 2011; for the worst-off quarter of applicants, the average waiting time was 5.8 years. For a physician with no specialist training, it took 6 years on average.

Pernilla Ek at the NBHW estimates that the waiting time is still the same, plus the now significantly longer processing times at the NBHW.
Svenska Dagbladet skrev:The main reason seems to be the challenge of making a living during the process, often requiring the applicants to have a job while also doing the complementing program. Learning the language and waiting for the two test opportunities available each year does also add to the situation, as does the requirement of completing 6 months of trial service - often without pay.
