Hello Everyone,
I have a quick question: Is the swedish ST recognized in the US for application into a fellowship program?

I haven't found any information online...hopefully someone in here knows.

Thanks

Recognized in what respect? It might help in the sense that they will see that you have more experience, so you might be more readily accepted into a fellowship program. On the other hand, I think you'd have to complete a residency program in the U.S. prior to undertaking a fellowship. Not to mention that you'd have to pass USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3 before you'd even be considered for a residency.

if you want to stay on and practice in the US after fellowship then you would need US residency, however, some doctors do the residency in their home country and go to the states for 2-3yrs fellowship and return to their home country. But not residency from every country is accepted.
I was just wondering if after ST in sweden, one can use that and go to the states for 2-3yrs fellowship only....after passing the USMLE ofcourse

Have you tried calling or emailing some fellowship programs to ask your questions?

Generally no, you have to do residency again. If you want to practice in the US you'll have to do a US residency, I think it's a boards thing.
I know of one exception though, as radiology specialists can do fellowships and get board certification after foreign specialist training. There's been talk about closing that pathway though, so don't count on it being available in five years.
