2008 Swedish-foreign ratio for medical licences

av Nils » 10 maj 2012, 20:48

In the year of 2008, the distribution of Swedish medical licenses between different cathegories of medical graduates was as follows:

Total amount: 2024 graduates
Swedish degree: 801 graduates
EU/EES degree: 993 graduates
Other degree: 230 graduates

This means that 60 % of the medical licenses in Sweden were awarded to graduates with a non-Swedish medical degree.

(Unfortunately, I do not have any statistics on the share of applicants born in Sweden, so we don't know the numbers of licenses awarded to Swedes with foreign medical degrees versus foreigners with foreign medical degrees.)

Among the non-Swedish medical graduates, 946 graduates got their Swedish license through an international treaty (such as the EU agreement on recognition of medical degrees from any country within the union); the remaining 277 graduates instead underwent the Swedish medical licensing procedure.
